Microsoft Lync – How to minimize to the notification area instead of the Task bar?

When you minimize the Lync application, Lync will minimize the taskbar. But, we can change this behavior to minimize to notification area instead of minimizing the taskbar to get more space on the taskbar. This article explains how to do it.

This article applies to:

  • Microsoft Lync 2010
  • Microsoft Lync 2013

Step 1. Open Microsoft Lync application.

Step 2. Click on the Settings icon (don’t click on the down arrow besides on Settings icon). Lync will display the “Lync – Options” dialog.

Step 3. From the “Lync – Options” dialog, select General item from the left-side pane. Lync will display general settings in the right-side pane.

Step 4. From the right-side pane, select “Minimize to the notification area instead of the task bar” check box which is under the “Application window” group.

Step 5. Click on the OK button to apply the changes.

Now, whenever you close or minimize the Lync application window; Lync will NOT minimize to Windows taskbar.
