Mozilla Firefox – Manage Saved Logins and Exceptions

In our previous Article, we have discussed enabling a feature in Mozilla Firefox to prompt to save the login credentials whenever you attempt to login to the websites. Firefox store these details and also allowed to manage them.

In this Article, we will discuss managing the saved logins and the exceptions to NOT to save the login details for the sites.

If you are allowed the browser to save the login details, Firefox save the details and allowed to manage these through Saved Logins dialog. By default, Mozilla Firefox do NOT encrypt the login details.

Step 1. Open Mozilla Firefox and open Preferences page.

Step 2. Select “Privacy & Security” option, which will takes you to the Browser Privacy options.

Manage Saved Logins

Step 3. Click on Saved Logins… button to open the “Saved Logins” dialog where you can see the saved login details. You can access and manage the saved login details from this dialog. If you created a Master Password, you will be asked to enter the password to retrieve the saved information.

Below are the options you can see from this dialog.

  • Remove button to remove the saved login details for the selected entry in the list.
  • Remove All to remove all the login details which are saved.
  • Show Passwords will display the passwords associates with each site. As I mentioned above, passwords are NOT encrypted. This leads to unauthorized access to sites using your credentials. You must protect these details by setting a Master password. By doing this, Mozilla Firefox browser will prompt to provide the password to see the saved logins details. I will explain in a separate Article to how to set a Master password.

Click on Close button to close the “Saved Logins” dialog.

Manage Exceptions

Step 4. Click on Exceptions… button to open “Exceptions – Saved Logins” dialog. This dialog lists list of sites for which Mozilla Firefox browser won’t display the prompt to save the login details.

These details are saved when you select “Never Save” button when Firefox browser prompt to save the login details. But you can also add the sites here to NOT to save the login details.

  • Enter the website for which you do not want to save the password in “Address of website” field. Then click on Block button to add the site to exceptions list.
  • List of websites will be displayed in the Website field.
  • Remove Website button to remove the website from the Exceptions list. When you remove the Website from the list, next time when you login to the Website, the Firefox browser will prompt to save the login details.
  • Remove All Websites button to remove all the websites which are displayed in the Exceptions list.

Click on Save Changes to apply the changes done. If you do not want to save the changes, click on Cancel button.

We will discuss more topic in my Upcoming Articles.
