How to start or stop running Microsoft OneNote at Windows Startup?

Microsoft OneNote software is very useful to organize and find your notes. It provides simple user interface to allow you to add your notes, organize them and universal access to all of your information.

Microsoft OneNote provides Quick Launch option to run the application at Windows Startup. This article explains how we can start/stop Microsoft OneNote application at Windows Startup.

This article applies to:

  • Microsoft OneNote 2010

Step (1). Open Microsoft OneNote application.

Step (2). Click on File menu. It will display File menu items.

Click on Customize Quick access Toolbar which is on top of the Microsoft OneNote application window. It will open Quick Access Toolbar items.

Step (3). Click on Options item. It will open OneNote options window.

(OR)

Click on More Commands… item from Quick Access Toolbar items. It will open OneNote options window.

Step (4). Now click on Display tab which is left side of the OneNote options window. It will display the display options to change how OneNote looks.

Step (5). Under Display section, uncheck the checkbox “Place OneNote icon in the notification area of the taskbar”. If you unselect this option Microsoft OneNote application will not run at Windows Startup. If you select this option Microsoft OneNote application will run at Windows Startup.

Step (6). Click on OK button to save the changes.

Next time when you restart your Windows Operating System, Microsoft OneNote application will NOT run if you have selected the option mentioned in Step-5. If you have selected the option, Microsoft OneNote application will run and OneNote application icon will appear in the system tray (or notification area of the taskbar).

You can also use the following steps to start/stop running Microsoft OneNote application at Windows Startup.

This section applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 7 Operating System.

Step (1). Click on Start button and select Control Panel. It will display all control panel items.

Step (2). Open Administrative Tools by double click on Administrative Tools item. It will list all administrative tools in explorer window.

Step (3). Open System Configuration window by double click on System Configuration tool.

Step (4). In System Configuration window, click on Startup tab. It will display all the startup items.

Step (5). Find Microsoft OneNote item and check or uncheck the checkbox. If the check box is selected, Microsoft OneNote application will run at Windows Startup otherwise it will not run.

Step (6). After making the changes click on OK button to apply your changes.

Step (7). Once you click on OK button, System Configuration window display the message based on your settings to restart the computer. Make sure that save all of your work before restarting the system. You can also restart the system later by clicking on Exit without restart button.

Once you restart the system depending on the setting you are done at Step-5, Microsoft OneNote application will start or will not start at Windows Startup.
