How to compare two Microsoft Word documents?

Microsoft Word Application provides the feature to compare two Microsoft Word Documents and display the results/changes in review pane. This article explains how to compare two-word documents in Microsoft Word Application.

This article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office 2010

Step (1). Open Microsoft Word Application.

Step (2). Click on the Review tab. It will display Review icons.

Step (3). Click on Compare button, which is under Compare group. It will pop up a menu.

Step (4). Select Compare… menu item from the pop-up menu. It will display Compare Documents dialog.

Step (5). In order to compare the files, you need to select two files from Compare Documents dialog. Click on the Original document combo box, and select Browse… item. It will open a File Open dialog to allow you to select a file. Select the file from the File Open dialog and click on the Open button.

Step (6). Then click on Revised document combo and select Browse… item from the drop-down combo box. It will display a File Open dialog to select a file. Select the file from the file Open dialog and click on the Open button.

Step (7). Now click on the OK button to compare the two-word documents and display the differences/changes between the two-word documents.

Step (8). Word will display the differences/changes in Review Pane.
