Windows 8 – How to “Shut down” the system?

Windows 8 Operating System is different compared to earlier Windows Operating Systems. The usability is different, look and feel are different; it will take time for us to understand this Operating System. Usually, we start from the Start button in earlier Windows Operating Systems. But in Windows 8 OS, doesn’t have the usual Start button. So, we will be confused about how to use it, from where to start and where to go. One example is power-off the system.

This article explains how to power off Windows 8 Operating System.

Usually, on Windows 8 screen, you will see a Power button.

Step (1). Click on the Power button. Windows will display a pop-up menu.

Step (2). From the pop-up menu, select the Shut down menu item to power-off Windows 8 Operating System.

It seems so simple, right? But sometimes you will not see the Power button on your Windows 8 Operating System. Then it is tricky to figure out how to Shut down. Then follow the below steps.

Step (1). Click on the right edge of the Windows 8 screen or swipe in from the right edge of the screen. Windows 8 will display a slide-out menu.

Step (2). From the slide-out menu, select the Settings icon. Windows 8 will display the Settings pane.

Step (3). From the Settings pane, select the Power icon. Windows 8 will display a pop-up menu.

Step (4). From the pop-up menu, select the Shut down menu item to shut down or power off your laptop or computer.
