Windows 8 is different than its earlier Operating Systems. If you are familiar with using earlier Windows Operating System (OS); while using Windows 8, you will come to know how different it is from its earlier OSs. To start an application in earlier Windows Operating Systems is just click on the Start button; go to Programs and then select the application you want to launch. In the case of Windows 8, it is different. Windows 8 user interface, look and feel are different.
This article explains the steps to open an Application in Windows 8 Operating System.
Step 1. Click on the right edge of the screen (if you are using the touch screen, slide right to left). Windows 8 will display a slide-out menu.
Step 2. Select Start icon from the slide-out menu. Windows 8 will display the Start screen.
Step 3. Check for your application on the Start screen. You can scroll right (slide right) to see more applications.
Step 4. If you find the application on the Start screen, select the Application. Windows 8 will open the selected Application.
If your application does not appear on the Start screen, follow the below steps.
Step 5. From the slide-out menu, select the Search icon. Windows 8 will display a Search pane.
Step 6. Select the Apps item which is under the search box and start typing the name of the application in the search box.
Ex: If you want to open the “Remote Desktop Connection” application, start typing “Remote” in the search box.
Step 7. Window 8 will display the Application search results. From search results select the Application you want to open. Once you select the Application, Windows 8 will open the selected Application.
Ex: If you select the “Remote Desktop Connection” Application from search results, Windows 8 will open the “Remote Desktop Connection” Application for you.
