Microsoft Office 2013 – How to verify the Office installation is Click-to-Run or MSI-based installation?

 Usually when we install Microsoft Applications; we install them by clicking on the Setup file(s). The setup will takes us through the installation steps (wizards) to install the Application(s). This type of installation is MSI-based installation. Through this, the whole Product (with selected features) will be installed on the specified System.

Microsoft provides another type of installation is; Click-to-Run installation (or C2R installation). Through this installation, we can access the Application without installing the complete application, by using Streaming and Virtualization technology.

You (or your Organization) can decide which method to follow to install the Applications.

In this Article, we will learn how to verify the installation type; MSI or C2R installation.

Verify whether the installation is Click-to-Run OR MSI-based Installation

Step 1. Open the installed Office Application; Excel, Word etc,.

Step 2. From main menu, select FILE menu option. Office Application will display list of menu items.

Step 3. Select Account menu item. Office Application will display Account details; such as User Information, Office Theme/Background, Production Information etc,.

Step 4. Check for the “Update Options” item. If it exists, that means your Office installation is a Click-to-Run Installation. Otherwise, it is a MSI based installation.
