Google Analytics service is used to generate detailed statistics about a website’s traffic, website traffic sources, and much more.
In order to use the Google Analytics service, you need to Sign up for Google Analytics. Once you sign up Google Analytics will allow you to create an account; which will generate a tracking code and you need to place this tracking code on the website’s pages.
Following are the steps to create a Google Analytics account and generate a tracking code.
Step (1). Sign up for Google Analytics.
Step (2). Once you sign-up, Google Analytics will display the page to create an account in Google Analytics. This account will generate a tracking ID, which needs to place you on your website’s pages.
Step (3). Select Website from What would you like to track? field. You can select a Mobile app if want to track the Mobile app.
Step (4). You can select either “Universal Analytics” or “Classic Analytics” features radio boxes from the Select a tracking method field.
Step (5). Provide Account Name in the Account Name field. This field will be displayed in the accounts list in your Google Analytics account.
Step (6). Provide the name of the website you want to track in the Website Name field.
Step (7). Under the Website URL field, select HTTP:// if your website is non-SSL. If your website is secured then select HTTPS://. Then provide your website URL in the Website URL field.
Step (8). Provide information for other fields and click on the Get Tracking ID button to get your tracking ID.
Step (9). Google Analytics will display a Terms of Use agreement dialog. Read carefully the agreement and click on the “I ACCEPT” button if you are agreed with the terms. Otherwise, click on the “I DO NOT ACCEPT” button and skip the rest of the steps.
Step (10). Once you accepted the terms of use, Google Analytics will create a tracking ID and display the tracking ID and tracking code information on the Tracking Code page.
Step (11). Copy your tracking code and place it on your website’s pages to start tracking your website’s pages.
Step (12). Click on the Home icon on the left side of the page. Now you will see your newly created account will be displayed under the accounts list.
Now you have an account created in Google Analytics. If you want to create another account to track another website’s traffic, do the following steps.
- Click on the Admin link which is on the right side of the page. It will display an Admin page, with accounts information under the ACCOUNT section, properties information under the PROPERTY section, and views information under VIEW section.
Google Analytics – Create a new account - Click on the drop-down box under the ACCOUNT section and select Create new account item. It will display a New Account page.
- Follow the steps from Step (3) to continue to create the account.
